Xbox Series X stock drought to continue 'until second half of 2022'
IT'S been almost a year since the Xbox Series X first launched, but the powerful Microsoft console is still hard to come by. In a new update though Xbox fans have found out when the great Xbox Series X stock drought could all be over - unfortunately there could still be plenty more months ahead of scarce stock.
If you're hoping the Xbox Series X will be easier to come by in the next few months we've got some bad news for you. AMD CEO Lisa Su has predicted when the global chip shortage which has impacted both the PS5 and Xbox Series X stock levels will be over. And, unfortunately, this scarcity of critical components is expected to last into next year.
As reported by CNBC (via Metro), Su has said the global chip shortages should be over by the second half of 2022. However, Su expects the first half of next year will remain "tight".
Su said: "We’ve always gone through cycles of ups and downs, where demand has exceeded supply, or vice versa. This time, it’s different. It might take, you know, 18 to 24 months to put on a new plant, and in some cases even longer than that. These investments were started perhaps a year ago".
The comments come as Xbox boss Phil Spencer also warned that the Xbox Series X stock shortages aren't about to end anytime soon.
Speaking to The Wrap (via VGC) the Xbox bigwig also said Xbox Series X stock shortages will continue into 2022.
Spencer said: "I think it’s probably too isolated to talk about it as just a chip problem.
"When I think about, what does it mean to get the parts necessary to build a console today, and then get it to the markets where the demand is, there are multiple kind of pinch points in that process. And I think regretfully it’s going to be with us for months and months, definitely through the end of this calendar year and into the next calendar year."
Xbox reveal the upcoming Series X console

The Xbox Series X became available to purchase on the official Microsoft Store today (Monday October 11), however according to Stock Informer the restock sold out in a matter of minutes.
