47 Metres Down review: Tense, stylish and ridiculously entertaining
I HEARD some big laughs at the press screening of 47 Metres Down – not a great sign for a horror film about killer sharks.
Lame dialogue and clunky plot served a purpose in 47 Metres Down
47 Metres Down (15, 87 mins)
Director: Johannes Roberts
Stars: Mandy Moore, Claire Holt, Matthew Modine
But perhaps the lame dialogue and clunky plot served a purpose. With a film as scary as this you need something to reduce the tension.
The first chortle came as two holidaying sisters (Mandy Moore and Claire Holt) foolishly agreed to climb into an extremely rusty cage that was being manhandled by two swarthy locals in ill-fitting wetsuits.
When the chain inevitably breaks, the wholesome Americans find themselves trapped at the bottom of the sea while a pack of ravenous Mexican sharks circle overhead.
The ending is a little obvious but it’s tense, stylish and ridiculously entertaining.
