Captain Boomerang's pink unicorn fetish based on REAL men who love My Little Pony
CAPTAIN BOOMERANG'S Suicide Squad pink unicorn fetish is based on real life Bronies - thousands of men are actually obsessed with My Little Pony including support groups in the US military.
Captain Boomerang's pink unicorn fetish has been explained
The dodgy Aussie character is introduced at the film’s beginning with a profile just like all the others members of the Suicide Squad.
Apart from revealing his real name as Digger Harkness and that he’s committed 98 counts of burglary, it also says his fetish is pink unicorns.
Captain Boomerang spent much of the DC movie carrying around his fluffy toy called Pinky.
Suicide director David Ayer unveiled in a recent interview the reason for Boomerang’s obsession…
Boomerang's unicorn toy was first spotted in the Suicide Squad trailer
Bronies are adult men who love the show
He said: “I thought [Boomerang] needed a little something kind of fun and silly.
“And it kept appearing throughout the film. It became a bit of a mascot.”
Ayer was asked if Boomerang was therefore a Brony, an adult male fan of the children’s cartoon My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
There are two documentary films about the fandom
Ayer confirmed: “He’s, [he’s a] Brony.
“Which is fine. I think it’s a good thing and gives him a little hobby besides robbing banks.”
Some fans felt Boomerang’s obsession was a rip off of Deadpool, who has a toy unicorn himself.
The Brony phenomenon is so big there’s two documentary films about the fans.
One’s called Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony, and the other, A Brony Tale.
Apart from BronyCon, fans from all walks of life have meet ups to share their love for the show, including servicemen in the US army who feel they have to keep their fandom a secret.
The show follows the adventures of Twilight Sparkle and her life with other pony friends in Ponyville.
