The Babadook review: well-acted but surprisingly tame
IN THE immortal words of Terry Wogan: "Is it me?"
Many voices have been raised in praise of The Babadook but it's hard to see what all the fuss is about.
This slow-burning Australian chiller is well-acted and often quite stylish but it feels awfully familiar and surprisingly tame by the time it reaches an anti-climax of an ending.
Six-year old Sammy (Noah Wiseman) is enough of a handful before he starts reading scary bedtime story "The Babadook".
Soon, the fragile lad and his exasperated, careworn mother Amelia (Essie Davis) appear to be under siege from a malignant spirit that sprinkles glass in their food and brings nights of sleepless torment.
Could the inky black, evil Babadook be for real or is it all in their minds?
