WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD. Last night’s Game of Thrones finale has received mixed reviews from critics and fans alike, yet many fans were disappointed by the ending. The Iron Throne was destroyed, its rightful heir Jon Snow sent into exile and Bran Stark was elected king in something of a new democracy that resembles more of Papacy. But with two books left to write in A Song of Ice and Fire, fans are calling on author Martin to give them “the ending we deserve” in The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring.
One fan tweeted: “At least we still have @GRRMspeaking to give us the ending Game of Thrones deserves. Bring on the books!”
Another said: “Wow, such a bad ending to a TV series as I have ever seen.
“I will have a hard time continuing with the books because the series ended so poorly. This was such a connect the dots ending, I am left stunned.”
A fan wrote: “This is your fault @GRRMspeaking. You should have written the books, as you were supposed to have done, so that all the fans of your story, we would have had an epic ending, and not this cheap version, made by some fans and not by your mastermind.”
While another added: “Yeah I’m gonna need George RR Martin to finish these books and give us the ending we deserve because Ned Stark didn’t die for this.”
At least we still have @GRRMspeaking to give us the ending #GameOfThrones deserves. Bring on the books! #SilverLinings

Fans are ticked about the #GameOfThonesFinale. Never fear readers of the books, isn’t giving the show a BS ending while keeping the “real” ending a secret for us a very @GRRMspeaking thing to do?

We must protect George RR Martin at all costs. We will receive the ending we deserve.

moral of this last season is that you shouldn't let someone finish a story they didn't start.. would've waited another 2 years for a better ending written by @GRRMspeaking #GameOfThronesFinale

Speaking with Rolling Stone, Martin said: “The major points of the ending will be things I told them five or six years ago.
“But there may also be changes, and there’ll be a lot added.”
Of course, it’s possible the author may make more drastic changes to A Dream of Spring, following such backlash.
But, for now, he’s busy trying to complete his penultimate novel in the series, The Winds of Winter.
