Game of Thrones: George RR Martin teases Fire and Blood as setting of next TV prequel?
GAME OF THRONES author George RR Martin may have teased Fire and Blood as the setting of the next TV show prequel after The Long Night.
Emilia Clarke: I had an existential crisis leaving Game of Thrones
The 70-year-old author may still have The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring to go in his A Song of Ice and Fire series, but the Game of Thrones TV show is ending next year.
Nevertheless, a spin-off titled The Long Night will arrive next year starring Naomi Watts.
The initial synopsis reads: “Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.
“And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend…It’s not the story we think we know.”
Of course, this isn’t the only Game of Thrones spin-off in development at HBO, with a rumoured five in the works.
So just what could they be about? Where and when in Westeros and Essos’ history will they be set?
Well in his latest blog post Martin writes: “There are still a couple of other possible prequels in active development. I can’t tell you the subject matter of those projects, no, sorry, wish I could.”
But then what the author wrote next could be interpreted as a tease for at least one of the projects.
The next sentence read: “The readers among you might want to grab a copy of FIRE & BLOOD when it is released on November 20, though.”
Fire and Blood is the first volume covering the constructor of the Iron Throne and first king of all seven kingdoms, Aegon the Conqueror up until Aegon III.
The second volume with a focus on the rest of the monarchs up to the Mad King Aerys II, before Robert Baratheon’s rebellion.
With Martin telling fans “they might want to grab a copy of Fire and Blood” perhaps this is a planned TV show.
Especially Aegon the Conqueror’s becoming the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and the Iron Throne’s construction.
Hopefully, it won’t be too long before the next Game of Thrones spin-off is announced.
Fire and Blood is released on November 20.
