Doris is no more
SHE has one of the most recognisable names in showbusiness but Doris Day is, apparently, no more.
The Fifties’ film legend has, we hear, changed her name to Clara.
“Doris now signs notes as Clara,” explains a source close to the 84-year-old.
“She made the switch to distance herself from her screen image.”
With four failed marriages behind her, the veteran actress now devotes her life to rescuing animals and feels like a different person.
Clara was a nickname given to her more than 50 years ago by a former co-star, Billy De Wolfe, who felt she looked more like a Clara than a Doris.
She was named after her mother’s favourite silent screen star, Doris Kenyon.
