Bucks Fizz shock claim
IT’S one of the most memorable moments in Eurovision history: Bucks Fizz members Mike Nolan and Bobby Gee livening up an already perky performance of Makin’ Your Mind Up by ripping off the skirts of bandmates Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston to win the contest in 1981.
But now Thereza Bazar, of Bucks Fizz’s arch-rivals Dollar, has sensationally claimed that the show-stopping move was her idea.
“My friend Nicola called me up and said, ‘I’ve got a problem. We’re rehearsing Bucks Fizz for the Eurovision song contest finals selection but they’re doing the choreography and it’s boring,'” Thereza, 56, recalls in an interview on Vintage TV.
“And I said: ‘Well, what are the girls wearing?’ and she said ‘Little skirts.’ So I said: ‘Well, just tell the boys to rip the skirts off!’ ”
