Should Britain be declared full?
A FRESH wave of migrants could be heading to Britain after Brussels yesterday voted to introduce a “blue card” work permit for highly skilled workers from outside the EU.
If approved, the Blue EU Labour Card – similar to the US green card – could see an influx of 20 million Asian and Africans to Europe by 2027.
The card would give a renewable right to live and work in the EU, with permanent residency automatic after five consecutive years.
Shadow Home Secretary David Davis said: “The impact on the UK is different to other EU countries. The last thing we need is more meddling from Brussels.”
And Conservative MEP Syed Kamall said: “We must never lose control of our right to determine who lives in Britain.”
Immigration minister Liam Byrne said the Government also had concerns. He said: “We don’t support these proposals. This is why we have secured the right not to opt-in for all immigration measures from the EU.”
What do you think about the proposal for a new EU Labour card? Is Britain struggling to cope with increasing numbers of immigrants? Should it be declared 'FULL'?
Have YOUR say.
