Clear evidence we have to win back border controls - EXPRESS COMMENT
THE number of EU citizens working in Britain has hit a new record high with an estimated 2.37million people from the rest of the bloc now working here.
It is estimated that 2.37million EU citizens are working in Britain
This staggering statistic shows how much has changed since Tony Blair ushered in the era of open-door migration.
It is more important than ever that we win back border controls as part of the Brexit process.
Those who have come here, worked hard and contributed to our society are admirable and deserve our gratitude.
When so many people are still, even with the Conservatives’ commonsense reforms, happy to live off benefits, it is to their credit that they came here to work.
There can be no denying that the influx of so many workers from the rest of the EU has had a negative impact on this country
However, while we can appreciate the efforts of the individuals involved, there can be no denying that the influx of so many workers from the rest of the EU has had a negative impact on this country.

Many will also be entitled to in-work benefits – even if they have a job they can still claim cash from the British taxpayer. And the fact that so many come from poor countries means they are often willing to work for sub-standard wages, placing pressure on British workers to accept the same.
Any government that claims to have the interests of ordinary people at heart must make controlling immigration a priority. After Brexit, hopefully, we will see ministers doing just that.

Elderly people are 'suffering in silence' when their hospital care goes wrong
Complaints going unheard
Ears have been raised that elderly people are “suffering in silence” when their hospital care goes wrong because family members find it difficult to raise concerns with doctors.
This is indeed worrying given rising rates of dementia which can leave patients totally reliant on friends and family to ensure they are receiving proper care.
Nobody likes being criticised but it is up to NHS staff to make sure that both patients and their loved ones know how to complain and feel confident that their concerns will be addressed
