Uniting in the wake of terror
IN THE carnage and chaos, bystanders rushed to help soldiers, police and security pull the barricades off the injured and ferry them to hospital.
It has been this way ever since as dedicated professionals and heroic members of the public worked to defeat the Boston bombers.
From terribly injured Jeff Bauman, who first alerted the FBI to the identity of terrorist Tamerlan Tsarnaev, to brave homeowner David Henneberry who discovered the hiding place of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
At the London Marathon today thousands of runners will pay tribute not only to those hurt or killed in the Boston Marathon bombing but all those who helped bring this terrifying chapter to a close.
All along the 26-mile route the public will stand together with increased security to ensure the run is as safe and fun as possible.
Best of British to all those taking part and all those watching over them.
