Sad lesson in suing culture
JUST when you thought Britain's compensation culture couldn't get any worse along comes another story to deaden the heart.
The news that schools are getting rid of slides and swings because children are suing them for minor injuries is depressing indeed but you can't blame them for doing so. That blame lies with the parents who allow their youngsters to go to court and a society that has let compensation culture get out of hand.
Blame lies with the parents who allow their youngsters to go to court
Childhood is a time for learning boundaries, be it in behaviour or scuffed knees. Parents should be telling their youngsters to laugh off minor incidents, to get up and play on, not rush to the nearest magistrate.
The damage they risk doing is incalculable. What is going to happen when these youngsters grow up? They will have been taught that nothing is their own fault. Quite possibly they could lack the resilience and ability to help the country compete in business with our economic rivals.
It's time for parents to stand up and ignore the lure of easy money.
