Labour's terrifying plans are now becoming a reality

Now is the time to unite the Conservative party and form a strong opposition to win the next election, says Priti Patel.

It's taken less than a month for Labour’s terrifying plans for Britain to become a reality.

The Chancellor has given in to Labour’s union paymasters and junior doctors’ unsustainable pay demands at the expense of pensioners who have scrimped and saved their whole lives to retire in dignity.

The British people will quickly start to see Labour for what they are: aspiration-punishing, money-grabbing, big-state socialists whose values are not in line with the public’s. The Chancellor has axed essential winter fuel payments, plunging thousands of pensioners into uncertainty, not knowing what the Government will come for next.

They have refused to rule out hiking inheritance tax, which will add further stress to anyone wanting to pass on their hard-earned money to their family. As we have heard from Silver Voices, there are fears they could take away pensioners' bus passes, confining the elderly to their homes and stopping them seeing their loved ones.

This is what just over a month of big-state Labour Government is like, and I don’t want to begin to imagine one, five or even ten years of Starmergeddon might look like. That’s why I am standing to have the privilege of leading the Conservative and Unionist Party.

I am unequivocally clear about the need for us to come together and unite so we can stand up to Labour and provide an effective Opposition.

The Conservative and Unionist Party unashamedly reward hard work and support our fantastic businesses nationwide. But bitter in-fighting has made voters forget that we are the only Party who share their values, and until we come together, we won’t be able to make the case for these authentic conservative principles, which the public overwhelmingly share.

Until then, we will watch Labour take more of your hard-earned money.

We can’t let this happen. The British people want to see Labour’s grandiose tax-spend plans scrutinised and held to account.

They want to see someone stand-up for the values they believe in: rewarding hard work, diligence and financial prudence.

I have consistently made the case for all these instinctively conservative values for the past 30 years. I served under William Hague in Opposition when Labour last punished pensioners and undid years of good Conservative government. With unity, experience and strength, I know how to lead the Conservative and Unionist Party in Opposition where we can hold Labour to account for the damage they are doing to Britain, all whilst earning back the trust of the British people.
