Greedy council fat cats are serving themselves, not the public
'These councils aren't skint because of Government cuts, but because of council bosses who are incompetent and bleeding the rest of us dry,' says Carole Malone.
How can it be that over 3,100 town hall fat cats are on £100K a year – or more?
Every day we listen to sob stories from failing councils on the brink of bankruptcy who are begging the Government to bail them out.
And because they’re pleading poverty - one in five say they’re on the brink of bankruptcy - the result is that public services are shoddy to non-existent. Car parking charges are rocketing, as is council tax and every other damn so-called “service”.
The fact is these councils aren’t skint because of Government cuts (which is what they’re claiming), it’s because these snout in the trough council bosses are incompetent and bleeding the rest of us dry.
And did you know that some of your hard earned cash has been spent by councils on vast, expensive art collections most of which the public never see, on properties, many of which are standing empty?
Hundreds of thousands are spent on fripperies like awards ceremonies. How can these councils justify spending all this cash on stuff that never benefits the public?
This year’s Annual Town Hall Rich List by the Taxpayers' Alliance has revealed that 3,106 council staff are earning £100,000 a year - the highest since 2015.
It finds 829 pocketed more than £150,000 – more than Rishi Sunak earns for being prime minister.
I’m sorry, but if the people running our local authorities had the “skills” they profess to have then they wouldn’t continue to invest OUR cash in hare-brained, ill-considered schemes that come to nothing and bankrupt them. But that’s what they’re doing.
While they’re playing high rollers with our cash and cocking up investments, they’re turning the street lights off early, cutting bin collections, providing fewer social care services, closing libraries, ratcheting up car parking and council tax charges.
They squeeze us all till we squeak and when we start complaining about it all they do is blame Tory cuts.
None of them are prepared to take responsibility for their own incompetency.
Well it is time they were forced to. These people cannot be put in charge of huge budgets without there being any accountability.
