Magician Paul sadly passed away at the age of 77, five weeks after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Debbie McGee, 59, was by his side when he died at their home in Wargrave, Berkshire.
Strictly Come Dancing finalist Debbie, who met the entertainer when she began working as his assistant in his shows, opened up about the devastating loss whilst trekking the Camino de Santiago in the first episode of the BBC's Pilgrimage: Road to Santiago last night.
Visibly moved by a frank conversation with a stranger about his dad’s death, she said: ”I lost my husband just over year ago and the way I kind of dealt with is is to keep really busy.
When I’m on my own is when it really hits me
“When I’m on my own is when it really hits me,” she admitted.
Debbie also explained that she had found it hard to say everything she wanted to say to Paul before he died, saying: “When you know you’re losing someone it’s too hard to say the things you want to say because you don’t walk to cry in front of them.”
After sharing a tearful embrace with the gentleman, she later broke down as she shared her experience of grief.
“I get sad but I’m always able to then find something that makes me think well, you can’t be sad because there’s somebody much worse off than you are,” she told the cameras, tears streaming down her cheeks.

Debbie previously said of Paul’s death: “From diagnosis, he died four weeks and five days later, so there wasn’t time to think about what was happening.
“We just had to get on with the situation and look after him.
“It wasn’t until after he died that the huge realisation kind of washed over me,” she continued. “I am out here, on this earth, on my own.”
She also revealed that Paul spent his final days eating ice creams in their garden and watching ITV quiz show The Chase.
