The couple, who play Emmerdale’s Debbie Dingle and David Metcalfe, tied the knot on February 10, when friends and family thought they were attending a 30th party for the mother-of-two.
The 29-year-old, who marks the milestone birthday next week, said telling guests they were actually going to wed was “the best moment of my life”.
Revealing all in this week’s issue of OK! Magazine, Charley and her new husband, 37, opened up about their big day after first meeting thanks to the ITV soap back in 2007.
Matthew popped the question two years later, before the pair welcomed sons: Buster, seven, and two-year-old Bowie.

However, it took until earlier this month for them to walk down the aisle in front of 100 guests at Ripley Castle near Harrogate.
As well as their loved ones only being let into the secret when they arrived, others were also given roles with Jamie Lomas giving Charley away and Lucy Pargeter acting as one of the bridesmaids.
“That moment when we announced what we were doing and seeing everybody’s reaction is the best moment of my life,” she commented.
Matthew continued: “We couldn’t have had a better response. People just screamed for about 10 minutes!”

Charley said the way they eventually celebrated was “totally” what they wanted, stating: “It wasn’t traditional, we didn’t have a sit-down meal and there weren’t loads of speeches.
“Someone once told me their friend had a surprise wedding and it stuck in my mind.”
Matthew went on: “We did the sand-blending ritual to symbolise the unity of the family with the kids. Bowie running up and down the aisle and interrupting made it more special… we wanted it to be different.”
Meanwhile, the newlyweds have also spoken about if they are going to have more children in the future.

Charley revealed: “I think so but, again, it’s that thing of not putting too much pressure on ourselves. But we want a smaller gap between Bowie and our third child.
“I certainly didn’t want to be pregnant at our wedding, so we were always going to wait until after that.”
