The former England star pulled on a strip similar to the famous black and white stripes of Newcastle United and appeared trim and athletic as he threw himself into the game, scoring a goal.
Gazza, 50, has battled alcoholism for years but he was clearly in his element as he waved to cheering crowds at Dunston FC in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear.
Spectator Robert Walton said: “Has there ever been a more talented and entertaining footballer than Gazza? So good to see him looking so well.”
While Jeff Mulhern added: “That’s the best I’ve seen Gazza look for some time.”
