The Back to the Future star looked emotional as he became a Doctor of Fine Arts thanks to the New York state University.
He could be seen dressed in a bright blue gown with yellow lapels and a matching hat as he arrived at the ceremony.
Michael completed his academic attire with a pair of dark aviator-style sunglasses and a silver chain watch.
As he took to the stage, he flashed a small smile before removing his eyewear and addressing those gathered for the occasion.

His appearance comes after he was snapped putting on a lively display at a hockey game where he reunited with Cuba Gooding Jr.
The 55-year-old put his Parkinson's battle to one side as he watched the New York Rangers take on the Ottawa Senators at Madison Square Garden earlier this month.
Michael appeared engrossed in the match as he cheered and clapped for his team alongside his wife Tracy Pollan and Cuba.
The actor has been open about his struggle with Parkinson's over recent years and has even revealed that the disease makes him laugh.

Speaking to the April issue of AARP The Magazine, he explained: "The truth is that on most days, there comes a point where I literally can’t stop laughing at my own symptoms.
"Just the other morning I come into the kitchen. I pour a cup — a little trouble there. Then I put both hands around the cup. She’s [wife, Tracy Pollan] watching.
"Can I get that for you, dear?' 'Nah, I got it!' Then I begin this trek across the kitchen. It starts off bad [and] only gets worse. Hot java’s sloshing onto my hands."
