The 33-year-old self-confessed selfie queen appeared on today’s edition of This Morning to talk about the incident at their holiday home in Spain which resulted in her needing 40 stitches.
Speaking to hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, she admitted that she and former spouse and Labour politician Simon, 49, had been on holiday together previously.
However, she confessed that perhaps this time there were “feelings” and led to things ending very differently.
Karen explained: “Yeah, we’d be on a few [holidays] and it’s trial and error. There needs to be a really clear boundary, the first one or two were fine. Boundaries weren’t crossed."
She went on to say: “We’ve gone on holiday together, we share our holiday home. We have no desire to sell it. We both use it with or without the boys.”
“We thought there’s no harm in it while we’re sharing the, unfortunately it didn’t quite…” she trailed off.

I’m really confused and twisting my words. That’s an example where boundaries were crossed
Karen continued: “I think there needs to be clear boundaries. I’m really confused and twisting my words. That’s an example where boundaries were crossed.”
She suffered injuries to her chest and hand from the attack after she was hit by a door when her estranged husband forced it open.
It appeared that the attack happened after Karen picked up her mobile phone and started talking to someone, leading Simon to become upset. “It’s not his place to say about my private life,” she asserted.

Nevertheless, she defended him and told the hosts: “I have some scars.
"It wasn’t an intentional act, the door just came through. He doesn’t seem like the sort.”
When asked whether there was any chance of reconciliation between the couple, Karen said that it was over and they were “perfectly amicable for the boys”.
