Katie said: "I think think this might be code speak for the fact I look like Frankenstein's bride. But I couldn't care less. And happily nor could he."
She continued: "More excitingly I gained a chance of a longer life… my mum and dad finally dare to imagine a world where they don't have to wait for a text from me each morning telling them I made it through.
"I can care for them, and start reversing the roles we play," the Daily Mail reported.

Katie's hoping the surgery will rid her of epilepsy
Her comments come after she wrote her most emotional column yet - prior to the operation - saying the "odds aren't great".
She explained of the process: "My children don't want me to have an operation because they are scared for me. But I have said to them all: Don't be scared for me. I am not scared. I have lived a happy life, made complete by the three of you.
"I am lucky. I wake up every day feeling glad to be alive. And that is a gift not everyone has been given."
