LIONEL RICHIE has revealed that he contacted his lawyers after Adele released her comeback single Hello.
Lionel Richie admits he wished that he'd trademarked the word Hello
The 66-year-old - who has confirmed that he will be working with the Someone Like You hitmaker at some point in the future - joked that he wished he'd trademarked the word.
He explained: "You can’t use my word without my acknowledgement, thank you very much. I have been trying to figure out, from a legal point of view, can you own a word?"
"So far all the lawyers have told me, ‘No’. I’ve tried . . . but the association is fabulous!” he added, according to The Sun.
Lionel released Hello on his 1984 album Can't Slow Down. His famous track includes the line: "Hello. Is it me you're looking for?"

Adele's track, on the other hand, opens with the sentence: "Hello. It's me."
Lionel's latest interview comes after he previously confirmed: “We are going to be doing something together - that’s already almost in the works.
“I can almost say that we’re talking but right now she has a mission.
“Her mission is to get her record out and go on tour, so until she finishes that cycle, that won’t happen just yet. She is committed to that.”

Adele announced her UK and Europe tour last week, with it kicking off in Belfast on February 29.
Her tour dates also include four gigs at London's O2 Arena on March 15, 16, 18 and 19.
Lionel also recently announced new UK tour dates. His tour starts on June 18, 2016, in Swansea and wraps up with two dates at London’s O2 on July 2 and 3.
