Lord Alan Sugar has been slammed for claiming no one in the UK is poor
The 68-year-old Apprentice star said people in the UK could not be classified as needy because they own televisions and microwaves.
However, Alan did conceded that there might be "some people up North who are quite poor".
In an interview with The Times Magazine, the outspoken entrepreneur said: "Who are the poor these days?
"You've got some people up North and in places like that who are quite poor, but they all have mobile phones, being poor, and they've got microwave ovens, being poor, and they've got televisions, being poor.
Many people thought the businessman's comments were out of touch
Alan is thought to be worth £900 million
The TV personality – thought to be worth £1.04 billion – added: "If you want to know what poor is like go and live where I lived in Hackney, where you didn't have enough money for the electric, didn't have a shilling for the meter."
Unsurprisingly. Alan's comments angered Twitter users who took to the social media site in anger.
"#alansugar another member of the elitist UK establishment unaware and can't care less of the real issues facing 95% of communities #parasite," wrote one.
