The 45-year-old may have been in the industry for 23 years now, but she says that she still notices a difference between the way that men are treated compared to women.
Posing for Harper's Bazaar, Rachel - who is married to James Bond actor Daniel Craig - said: "I’ve noticed in my career this tendency towards wanting women to be likeable in a way that’s not asked of men."
She added: "I don't understand how that's happened. You know, if you look back at Barbara Stanwyck, Bette Davis – they were difficult, difficult women, and they were iconic and worshipped."
However, saying that, Rachel insists that the director of her new release, The Lobster, is not like that at all.
