Madness missed out on TV sitcom
Eighties pop stars MADNESS planned to star in a bizarre TV sitcom based around their lives but the show was rejected by BBC bosses.
The Our House hitmakers were special guests on cult comedy The Young Ones twice in the early 1980s, and they were such a hit with the audience that the writers began working on a side project.
The show was due to feature the seven-piece ska band in a series of kooky scenarios, but TV chiefs axed it as sub-standard.
Guitarist Chris Foreman tells rock magazine Q, "The Young Ones loved us, they wanted to call it House of Fun. In fact, they wrote a series for us that we started to do, but then (keyboardist) Mike (Barson) said he was leaving the band... I think it was really good, but the BBC didn't want it."
