James Bond actor Ben Whishaw says it 'takes courage' for gay people to come out
JAMES Bond actor Ben Whishaw has admitted that it "takes courage" for gay people to come out to their families.
The star, who played Q in Skyfall and is openly gay, said it's "hard" and "applauded everyone who does it."
Whishaw, 33, opened up about his own coming out in an interview with The Sunday Times Magazine, where he revealed that is "so much tension around doing something like that."
Reminiscing about when he told his friends and family he was gay, he said everyone as "surprisingly lovely."
"I had anticipated that they would be, but they were."
He added that he had "a lot of fear in doing it for a long time," bus confessed he wasn't sure why.
"But it takes courage and people have to do it in their own time," he added.
Whishaw told the magazine: "It's hard to have a conversation with people you've known your whole life about a very intimate thing.
"It's massively weighted with all sorts of stuff, whatever the wider world is saying...it's an intimate and private and difficult conversation for most people," he said.
In his latest film Lilting, Whishaw plays a gay man coming to terms with the death of his boyfriend.
