Coldplay's sixth album Ghost Stories set for number one just DAYS after entering charts
CHRIS Martin might've "consciously uncoupled" from wife Gwyneth Paltrow earlier this year, but his music career hasn't suffered from the split.
The star's band Coldplay are on course to top of the charts after selling more than 82,000 copies of their new album on its first day of release.
The sales success of Ghost Stories, based on figures from the Official Charts Company, means it is almost certain to top the charts this weekend - giving the band its sixth number one album.
Martin Talbot, the Official Charts Company chief executive said: "The arrival of a new Coldplay album is always an event and Ghost Stories is no exception. To so comfortably achieve the biggest first day of any album is remarkable, especially after a three-year wait since their last album.
He added: "Every one of Coldplay's six studio albums have achieved number one status and Ghost Stories is on course to maintain that perfect record."
The other contenders for Sunday's top five include the new album by former Beautiful South bandmates Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott and Oasis's hotly-anticipated Definitely Maybe reissue.
But don't expect to see the British band on tour this summer - because the lads have ruled it out due to the cost.
Frontman Chris Martin reportedly wanted to launch a series of shows to coincide with the release of new record Ghost Stories this month, but the singer is convinced putting on concerts has become too costly and they couldn't afford it.
He said: "We're not touring, no, not for this album.
"It is difficult. We'd like to have toured, but it is too expensive and it costs a lot of money to build, so we couldn't have afforded to go."
