Darren Gough is latest to leave The Jump after going to head-to-head with Steve Redgrave
CRICKETER Darren Gough became the third celebrity to be eliminated from The Jump last night after going head to head with Sir Steve Redgrave.
The two sportsmen went head-to-head after their times in the skeleton left them in the bottom two, however five-time Olympic rowing champion Redgrave managed to jump a distance of 14.5 metres, beating Gough's 12 and sending him home.
The 43-year-old revealed that he was looking forward to enjoying some Laurent Perrier Rose and putting a few ice packs on his injuries.
"My body's just about stuck together," the star told RadioTimes.com after announcing the extent of his injuries on his Twitter account.
He listed a cracked rib, a torn hamstring and ligament damage among a whole host of other injuries, but admitted that he had enjoyed his stint on the Channel 4 show.
"Juts need to say #TheJump is the hardest experience of my life. 8 event of pure adrenaline," he wrote on the social networking account before revealing that he pushed himself to the complete limit.
“I push myself to the limit. I’ve been an adrenalin junkie all my life," he added to the RadioTimes.
“I’m very competitive. Steve pulled it out of the bag. He's the only one in the show that could have rescued that jump from the way it was going when he took off. That’s why he’s got five Olympic gold medals.”
Five singer Ritchie Neville topped the leader board last night in the men's skeleton competition, completing it in a time of 44.814 seconds, ahead of comedian Marcus Brigstocke, Sir Steve and Gough.
At the beginning of the show viewers learned that fashion journalist Henry Conway would no longer be continuing due to shattering a bone in his hand into seven pieces.
In a bid to replace him, X Factor winner Joe McElderry and journalist Donal MacIntyre took on the jump, with the singer jumping 15m and beating MacIntyre's 11.5 meters.
Tonight the show's female contestants - presenter Anthea Turner, TV personality Melinda Messenger, singer Sinitta, former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt and presenter Laura Hamilton - will compete in a giant slalom competition.
