Morrissey says The Smiths are never going to reunite
WHEN asked recently about the chances of his old band The Smiths re-forming, a spokesman for Morrissey categorically replied: “The Smiths are never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever going to reunite. Ever.”
So with that famous aversion to the idea of a reunion it’s fair to assume the singer would be unimpressed by the news that his two former Smiths band mates Johnny Marr and Andy Rourke have done just that at a US gig – performing together for delighted fans in Brooklyn at the weekend.
Marr, who was joined by Rourke for a performance of the group’s classic song How Soon Is Now? introduced the bassist by recalling how the pair had first formed a band together as teenagers.
He added: “Tonight 30 years later, I’m going to invite up one of my best friends in the world – and he’s still one of the best musicians I’ve ever heard.”
