Watch owned by Eric Clapton sells for £2m
A RARE Patek Philippe watch owned by Eric Clapton has sold at auction for £2.28million.
The 1987 timepiece, one of just two made, was the star attraction at the Christie’s sale in Geneva.
It created a bidding frenzy with 10 people from across the globe bidding for it.
A private Asian collector eventually bought it via a phone bid.
Rock star Clapton, 67, is said to be putting the proceeds from the sale into his Crossroads centre for drug and alcohol rehabilitation in Antigua.
A 1952 platinum watch by Patek Philippe fetched £2.5m at the sale.
