Broadway's lights to dim for Celeste Holm
The bright lights of Broadway will be dimmed on Wednesday (18Jul12) in honour of late actress CELESTE HOLM.
The Oscar-winning star, who shot to fame in a 1943 Broadway production of Oklahoma!, passed away on Sunday (15Jul12) at the age of 95 and her glittering stage career will be remembered in New York's famed theatre district this week (beg16Jul12).
The lights of Broadway's theatres will go dark on Wednesday and Holm's husband, Frank Basile, will stand outside the St. James Theatre - where Holm first performed in Oklahoma! - when the lights dim.
Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director of The Broadway League, says in a statement, "Celeste Holm's impressive career on stage and screen spanned six decades, so multi-generations of theatre and film fans had the chance to appreciate her unique talent. Our thoughts are with her friends and family at this time."
