Katie Holmes plots her life after Tom Cruise
THE career of Hollywood beauty Katie Holmes will be relaunched following her multi-million divorce from Scientologist husband Tom Cruise, friends say.
They believe the 33-year-old actress had felt “suffocated” within the marriage shaped by Cruise’s devotion to the religion.
Ex-Dawson’s Creek star Holmes is said to have gone along with the “church” and his control of everything – from where they ate out to her movie roles.
But the five-year marriage to Cruise – 50 tomorrow – is said to have left her “turning into a robot”.
Sources also believe Holmes may have acted to end the marriage for fear of their daughter Suri, six, being drawn into Scientology.
The star, who posed seductively in a bathing suit earlier this year for Brazilian jewellery label H Stern, is expected to build on the acclaim she won as Jackie Kennedy in the mini TV series The Kennedys.
One source said: “Katie felt she was going crazy and was actually turning into the robot that the press always made her out to be. She has a great personality but changed so much when she was with Tom. She became downtrodden and insipid.”
Katie is still a young woman and she wants to go out and have fun. She wants her freedom back
Another source said: “Tom is nearing 50 and when he’s not working he either goes to the gym or hangs out with Scientology buddies.
“Katie is still a young woman and she wants to go out and have fun. She wants her freedom back.”
Cruise was forced to cancel a star-studded party for his birthday tomorrow – with guests said to include David and Victoria Beckham along with film star Will Smith.
He will now spend a quiet day with 17-year-old adopted son Connor in Iceland, where Cruise is filming.
