‘Pikey’ slur Craig Revel Horwood made to apologise
STRICTLY Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood was forced to make an on-air apology yesterday after branding travellers “pikeys”.
The acerbic ballroom star, 46, blurted out the slur as he reviewed the morning papers on Channel 5 show The Wright Stuff.
Host Matthew Wright forced his outspoken guest to make an immediate retraction.
Speaking about TV hit My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, Revel Horwood declared: “Be a gypsy and stick to your codes and don’t involve us. And get off our TVs. All those pikeys though, darling, do we really need them?”
Wright said angrily: “That’s an offensive term towards gypsies. That’s like using the ‘N’ word towards black people – and you will have to apologise for that.”
The TV star immediately said:“I do apologise. I take it back.”
