Rod Stewart has issued an emotional message after needing to use an oxygen tank live on stage. The 81-year-old had to pause a concert at Utah’s First Credit Union Amphitheatre on Friday (June 19) after appearing visibly distressed. Staff rushed an oxygen tank to the stage as the star doubled over, before explaining to his audience that he had nearly fainted.

He managed to finish the show sitting down, but shortly after he cancelled four shows and postponed two more dates as he continues to battle ill health after a nasty bout of flu. Breaking his silence on Instagram, Rod wrote: “So sorry, my friends. I'm devastated and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans. I'll be back on stage and we'll see you soon – Sir Rod."

His team subsequently explained that Rod has been diagnosed with an acute upper respiratory infection, which led to laryngitis.

Now Rod has issued an emotional statement on social media to mark Father’s Day.

Alongside a snap of his eight children Rod wrote: “Proud to be their father,” with a love heart emoji.

Rod shares eldest daughter Sarah Streeter with Susannah Boffey, then Kimberly and Sean Stewart with ex-wife Alana Stewart. He went on to welcome daughter Ruby with Kelly Emberg, before Renee and Liam were born to his ex-wife Rachel Hunter.

With current wife Penny Lancaster, Rod shares sons Alastair and Aidan.

Fans rushed to show Rod some love in the comments section, with one writing: “The best dad!”

Another echoed: “Beautiful family!” while a third said: “God bless you always Rod.”
