Sir Elton John jetted off to the heart of Sicily to serenade his close friend Dua Lipa and her new husband, Callum Turner, at their lavish wedding over the weekend (June 6). However, it has been reported that the 79-year-old musician "struggled to see" during the performance as his eye condition worsened. The A-list couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at Marylebone Town Hall in London last week before they flew out to Italy for three days of celebrations with their family and friends.

The glamorous couple went all out for their big day, splashing the cash in a second wedding at the Villa Balguarnera in Baheria, east of Palermo. In an emotional moment, the Levitating hitmaker's good friend Elton performed his classic single Your Song at their request.

The dad-of-two flew out especially for the happy couple's ceremony on a private jet to be there on their big day. But insiders said Sir Elton was struggling with his sight and had to be guided to the piano with two assistants.

They told The Sun: "He played and sang amazingly, but seemed frail and had to be helped." Elton and his husband, David Furnish, 63, were then spotted leaving Palermo airport on Sunday (June 7) by private plane, returning to Farnborough, just 18 miles from their home in Windsor.

Sir Elton was seen being guided inside by David by the hand as they arrived, before taking a seat during their check-in. They also gave a cheery wave after spotting photographers.

The publication claims the one-night return flight will have cost a staggering £50,000. The I'm Still Standing hitmaker has been open about the problems his deteriorated vision has caused, after losing his vision in his right eye.

However, he is still determined to remain optimistic about his long-term health prospects. He told Variety at the time: "It's been devastating. Because I lost my right eye and my left eye's not so good, the last 15 months have been challenging for me because I haven't been able to see anything, watch anything, or read anything.

"I've had the most incredible life, and there is hope. I've just gotta be patient; someday, science will help me with this one. Once they help me with this one, I'll be fine. It's exactly like the AIDS situation. You mustn't give up hope, you must be stoic, you must be strong, and you must always try and batter the door down to try and improve things."

His husband, David, is also feeling optimistic, revealing last year that "there's been some improvements in his left eye" through various treatments. Sir Elton has praised his "wonderful family" and celebrity friends, including Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, for keeping his spirits high.
