Newsnight presenter Victoria Derbyshire was at the centre of a BBC probe following a series of misconduct allegations from colleagues. According to Deadline, the journalist was called out by fellow staff members for her "tone and language" during the BBC's 2025 workplace culture review.

The Daily Express has reached out to Derbyshire's representatives for comment.

Derbyshire, who first joined the BBC in 1998, is said to have denied allegations of bullying but "accepted that she can be direct and exacting under the pressure of a newsroom environment," according to the outlet.

For the time being, it appears that no allegations have been upheld by the BBC, but the presenter is said to have been given a warning by bosses. Derbyshire declined to comment when approached. Asked about their investigation into Derbyshire's conduct, the BBC stated: "While we do not comment on individual cases, we take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously and will not tolerate behaviour that is not in line with our values."

An award-winning journalist and prominent figure at the BBC, Derbyshire reportedly earns up to £280k a year after hosting Newsnight and the Ukrainecast podcast. Away from the broadcasting giant, Derbyshire also helms the Unbelievable Britain podcast in which she speaks with people who have "lived through extraordinary, jaw dropping and sometimes heart stopping experiences".

This evening, Derbyshire is not expected to helm Newsnight with Matt Chorley already scheduled to host. A challenging week for the programme, Chorley himself came under fire on Wednesday after Reform UK's Zia Yusuf noted that he had misquoted Nigel Farage in Tuesday's episode of Newsnight.

Penning a public apology to Nigel Farage on X, the journalist wrote: "I owe Nigel Farage an apology. During last night's Newsnight we covered the murder of Henry Nowak and the political reaction to the case, including discussing Nigel Farage's comments about 'pure, cold rage'.

"However I referred to 'white cold rage'. This was a mistake on my part, a misremembering of the quote. It didn't change the content of the interview but I should have got the quote right. I apologise to Nigel Farage for this."
