Rod Stewart warned kids 'if you don’t come, it's coming out of your inheritance'
The British rocker previously issued a warning to his children about their inheritance.
Sir Rod Stewart, who has eight children by five different women, admitted it's "hard" to get all of his kids together but joked he uses their inheritance as a way of making it happen. In an unearthed interview, the musician who will be turning 82 on June 10, made a candid confession about his family life, urging his adult children to take heed of his warning.
Rod has a daughter, Sarah, 62, from a teenage relationship, Kimberly, 46, and Sean, 45, from his marriage to Alana Stewart; and Ruby, 39, from his relationship with Kelly Emberg. He also has Renee, 33, and Liam, 31, with second wife Rachel Hunter. The Maggie May legend and his wife Penny Lancaster share two sons together, Alastair, 20 and Aiden, 15.
In a 2020 interview, the rocker admitted it was difficult rounding up all his children. In recent years, the family have been spotted on family getaways where most of his kids are in attendance.
He told the Daily Mirror: “They always have plans... So I say, ‘If you don’t come, it is coming out of your inheritance’. So they show up.”
The music legend also admitted he tries his best not to "spoil" his youngest children but admitted his wife Penny helps balance everything out.
“It is a fine line between spoiling them and depriving them. I sort of go either way. Penny is much better than I am – I’ll give them anything," Rod explained.
The singer admitted he always urged his children to earn a living.
He added: “With the older kids I say, ‘You have got to do it yourself, prove to me you can earn your living’. And that is what they do. But the two youngest keep me young, beyond doubt."
Just days ago, Rod was forced to cancel two performances at his Las Vegas residency after falling ill with a sinus infection.
The British rock icon had been due to take the stage at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Friday and Saturday as part of The Encore Shows.
"My apologies to my family of fans," he told the Las Vegas Review Journal.
"I am on vocal rest as I recover from a sinus infection. I look forward to seeing you at a future show at Caesars Palace or on tour this summer."
