Jeremy Clarkson had a fiery response, saying "you better f***ing not" upon receiving a message from Sir David Beckham. The former-Top Gear presenter didn't hold back after reaching out to congratulate David on his selection as a guest editor for Country Life.

The 50-year-old former England captain has taken to the countryside lifestyle in Oxfordshire since retiring from football. He has picked up hobbies such as beekeeping and vegetable gardening.

When news broke that David would take the helm of Country Life's October issue, Jeremy sent his well-wishes to his Chipping Norton neighbour. However, the conversation took a turn when the Clarkson's Farm celebrity chastised Beckham.

In an interview with The Times, 65-year-old Jeremy recounted: "I said congratulations [on Beckham's selection to guest edit Country Life magazine] and he replied, 'Thanks for your message; not official yet, but if it happens I'll have a nice pint of Stella."

Jeremy, who has also adopted country living at Diddly Squat Farm, ventured into brewing with his Hawkstone brand alongside John Hornby in 2021. By 2024, he went on to purchase a pub near his farm, now dubbed The Farmer's Dog.

Reacting to David's choice of celebratory beverage, Jeremy retorted: "You had better f***ing not."

He further remarked: "If he is going to drink anything that's not Hawkstone, it should be Beck's."

John chipped in with a jest about the 115-cap footballer's heritage, asking if he is "from a long line of Belgian farmers," wondering about his choice for a Danish beer. Meanwhile, David, who was honoured with a knighthood this month, is all set to bring his cherished recipes, regional artisans, and country champions into the spotlight as he guest edits Country Life magazine.

In the magazine, David will reveal to readers his rural passions. His words to the publication were full of gratitude: "I am honoured to have been invited to guest edit an edition of a magazine that I have always admired and read.

"I am really looking forward to working with the editorial team to produce an issue that will celebrate what the countryside and the great British landscape means to me and my family."

David and Jeremy are said to be close neighbours in Oxfordshire, with the former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder having been spotted shopping in the Diddly Farm Shop.

In 2021 Jeremy's partner Lisa Hogan revealed David would leave the girls in the shop "blushing" whenever he would visit with daughter Harper. She added: "He comes in every Sunday with his daughter to get the milk."

David has even been spotted with Clarkson's Farm star Gerald Cooper. The lovable farmer, who has worked on the plot for over 50 years, has helped make a success of Diddly Squat with Kaleb Cooper.

In 2023, a photo of Gerald and David was liked over half a million times after it was shared by Jeremy. The TV presenter wrote: "Gerald. And another man."
