S Club star Jo O’Meara has shared a devastating health update with fans as she posted a photo from a hospital bed while wearing a gown today. The 46-year-old singer captioned the image: "Back in hospital! The back is back! I didn't expect to be in here today." Prior to her sad update the star had seemed happy as she shared images celebrating her son Lenny's 17th birthday

The star has previously struggled with back issues and in 2022 she spent time in hospital and required surgery to have part of a disc removed. In interiews she recalled feeling like she’d been shot after waking up in agony in November 2022, saying her whole body "went into shock". There was also a chance of permanent damage to her legs from the procedure meaning she might never dance again. However, just a few months later in January 2023 she was back on stage and delightedly shared the news on Instagram.

"Just hopping on very quickly to let you know that I am back!"

"I’m going back on stage for my very first show in a long time after all these operations and stuff.

"I am so so excited, back with a band, back doing what I love the most, and I cant wait to see you all," she wrote in the legthy caption.

She also admitted the past few months had been "traumatic" for her, so getting back to performing was "just what’s needed".

She was left reliant on a cocktail of pain medication following the operation including morphine.

"Back surgery is so complex and every time they go in, they’re just weakening my back. I was absolutely petrified," she told The Sun in January 2023.

“The surgeons said there was a very good chance of permanent damage to the legs and that I might never dance again.

“I was thinking, ‘Well that’s me done then,’ because standing up on stage and singing Reach is kind of impossible if you can’t move," she said.
