Vernon Kay has given fans an update on his health after admitting he was "all over the place" following a hilarious blunder on his BBC Radio 2 show.

The presenter stumbled over his words while chatting with fellow radio host Zoe Ball, reports the Manchester Evening News. During their mid-morning handover Zoe wished him a "fabulous show"

Vernon amusingly responded: "Thank you very much Joey Ball. Did I just say Joey Ball?"

He then added, "I think I did. Actually, I think I said Zoe but because we're all so bunged up in the studio, it sounds like Joey."

Zoe took the mistake in good humour, telling him he could "call me anything you like" before responding with "thank you very much Vera Kay". Vernon then greeted listeners, saying: "Good morning everyone, we've still got the sniffles but we're not bunking off, it's only a cold."

However, things didn't seem to improve for the star as he later confessed he was "all over the place".

After incorrectly announcing his record of the week, he admitted: "I don't know what's going on, I think it's the paracetamol and the concoction of tablets to get rid of my head cold and sniffiness."

He continued, "That's what it is. I'm all over the place, I know. Myself, Phil and Janice look like we're lay on beds in AandE, I'll be honest with you."

The 50-year-old presenter recently had to take a break from his mid-morning radio show on doctor's advice. Despite being a regular on the national station since 2023, he had to step back on September 24 due to a sore throat.

The All Star Family Fortunes host said doctors told him to stay home and rest. It meant fellow Radio 2 presenter Gaby Roslin had to step in.

Taking to his Instagram Story, Vernon explained: "Morning everyone. Under doctors orders I'm resting my voice. It should be alright tomorrow but I'm going to slide away from the microphone this morning and just rest the vocal cords. They're a bit strained, allegedly. Very hoarse. But I'll be back tomorrow."

Battling through illness on Friday, October 4, he urged his audience for support, confessing: "I'll be honest with everyone, you need to send your messages in. I am bunged up today."

Despite the setback, Vernon Kay assures listeners he will return to his regular slot from 9.30am to midday on weekdays.
