Hairy Bikers' Si King thanks fans for supporting book

Si King made his first public appearance since the death of his Hairy Bikers co-star, Dave Myers, cooking a feast for a large crowd at Birmingham's NEC during the Good Food Show Summer event.

The pair, famous for their BBC travel and cooking programmes where they toured on motorcycles, had been a double act for nearly 20 years. However, fans were devastated to learn Myers sadly died aged 66 following a battle with cancer back in February.

Joined on stage by Italian chef Gennaro Contaldo, TV presenter Chris Bavin and recipe book author Chris Baber, King put on a brave face as he signed copies of their book. Referencing the book, The Hairy Bikers' Ultimate Comfort Food, he said of their young fans: "Great to see all ages enjoying the book! #fastandfresh."

In another charming post shared from the event, King is seen holding a mic whilst presumably sharing a light-hearted moment. The picture was captioned: "Thanks for having me @goodfoodshows! Clearly I was unknowingly showing off my air saxophone skills!"

Earlier this month, King saddled up for a memorial motorcycle ride in honour of Myers, a gesture also aimed at gathering funds for the Institute of Cancer Research, London, and children's charity NSPCC.

Remembering his friend and fellow Biker, the 57-year-old previously stated: "My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can't follow."

He added profoundly: "I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime.

"I wish you God's speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya."

Meanwhile, his wife Lili Myers issued a heartbreaking statement at the time, saying: "He was the same person on and off screen. Larger than life. I miss him terribly now. I miss that energy."

She also opened up about the difficult final stages of Dave's life, revealing how he found the strength to continue filming, which had left her "in awe". Lili would drive him to filming before taking him to hospital for chemotherapy.

She encouraged him to keep shooting the series because "it was his life", adding that they had "made the most of every day" together.

"It wasn't an easy period of time," she admitted. "I've watched this man die for a couple of years, every day, little by little."

She also revealed that she had not watched the last episode of the Hairy Bikers, as it aired on a day when she was celebrating her husband with friends and family.

"I want to remember the man as he is," she concluded.
