Laura Hamilton breaks silence over worrying condition

Laura Hamilton has broken her silence on social media after she sparked concern with fans after sharing a photo of her legs covered in bruises. The Channel 4 presenter has been open about her battle with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP).

Taking to Instagram, Laura said in a video: "I just want to say thank you to everyone who has reached out to me following my recent story with my legs that are all bruised.

"So, that's ITP - immune thrombocytopenia - so it's a reaction to a low platelet count I have in my blood. It's been a very, very crazy week for me which I will tell you all about very soon, and I think it's just taken its toll."

She then went on to explain that she was in Crete filming a new episode for A Place in the Sun and expressed her excitement on the new series which has aired on Channel 4.

The 42-year-old previously shared a snap of her bruised legs the day before, writing to her followers: " This is ITP! Just a little flare-up this week."

She also opened up about her condition in an Instagram post, writing: "Sometimes I do push myself a bit too hard and I will hold my hands up and say I've probably been doing that recently with my house build.

"My ITP has flared up so I want to take this opportunity to try and raise a bit of awareness about this autoimmune disease... ITP or Immune thrombocytopenia usually happens when your immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys platelets.

"It's quite a common illness that children can have and grow out of but adults can get it too. Just because you have ITP it doesn't mean you can't live a full live, achieving what you want. Three people in my family have auto immune diseases (all different kinds), and we all try to keep as positive as possible."

In other news, the mum of two shared that she is saying goodbye to her home after keeping the news "quiet for sometime." Laura has been trying to rebuild her life after her 13-year marriage came to an end in 2021. She shares two children with her ex-husband, Rocco who was born in November 2013 and Thalia who was born in 2015.

A Place In The Sun airs weekdays from 3pm on Channel 4.
