Nick Knowles 'turned away ambulance' after harrowing motorbike crash 'took his kneecap'

Nick Knowles got candid about his troublesome teenage years as the TV personality took to Instagram with a hair-raising tale on Sunday morning.

The 61-year-old shared a snap of a Fiat 127 hatchback in coral red which seemed to inspire the random memory.

Recalling his “massive motorbike accident” Nick set the scene as 1980, Kent and Sussex when he “took a kneecap off” in the collision.

Despite the devastating injury, the teenager sent paramedics away and turned down the ambulance ride to the hospital as he believed he could walk.

Unfortunately, the DIY SOS star quickly found his mobility was “only temporarily as it turned out when the adrenaline subsided”.

Nick found refuge in a house near the crash site which is where he stayed until his dad came to collect him in the very same car that was splashed across the background of his Instagram story.

Rather than the comforting greeting he expected, Nick got some tough love from his father.

He continued: “He decided it wasn’t fair to call the ambulance back as I had to live with my earlier decision.

“So they placed me on a spare front door from the garden and slid me into my dad’s open hatchback so he could drive me to the hospital where he parked outside A&E and casually strolled in to ask them to bring a trolley to remove me.”

He summed up the jaw-dropping tale adding: “Luckily they reattached the knee cap.”

Seemingly urging readers to believe his bizarre tale, the BBC star highlighted some startling specific details about the incident on Goods Station Road.

This included the make, model and colour of his dad’s car, the Kent and Sussex A&E where he was treated, the South African surgeon who fixed his knee and the Honda 250 Dream that he had been riding.

This isn’t the first time Nick has enthralled fans with his harrowing tale, although he did seemingly leave out some choice details in this retelling.

In 2016, while chatting to Motorcycle News, the DIY SOS star explained that the reason he crashed was because he had “stupidly tried to do a runner from the police”.

He said: “I switched off my lights and went flying into a road to try and lose them. I thought it was a throughroad, but it turned out to be a cul-de-sac.

“A resident in one of the houses that I passed called 999 as I flashed by almost flat-out, because they knew that at the speed I was travelling I was going to crash.”
