Electric Light Orchestra's Richard Tandy dies aged 76 as friends pay tribute
Electric Light Orchestra's keyboardist Richard Tandy has died aged 76 as his fellow bandmate Jeff Lynne confirmed the news in a tribute.
Electric Light Orchestra's (ELO) legendary keyboardist Richard Tandy has sadly passed away at the age of 76. Jeff Lynne, the band's frontman, expressed his profound grief over losing a 'dear friend' and long-time collaborator.
Taking to Facebook on Wednesday (May 1), Lynne penned an emotional tribute following the death of his friend, writing: "It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of my long-time collaborator and dear friend Richard Tandy."
He continued, "He was a remarkable musician and friend and I'll cherish the lifetime of memories we had together. Sending all my love to Sheila and the Tandy Family."
Tandy's musical journey with ELO began back in 1972 when he joined as bass guitarist before eventually becoming their permanent keyboard maestro.

The Birmingham-born artist went to school with fellow ELO bandmate Bev Bevan before meeting the rest of the group and creating the beloved band.
Leaving a significant footprint on ELO's sound, Tandy remained a crucial member until they disbanded in 1986. However, his bond with the band didn't end there and he became the only original team member who rejoined when they made a comeback in the noughties.
Recalling Tandy's work and passion, 2021 marked another highlight for him, reuniting with singer Jeff Lynne for a live rendition of some of ELO's greatest hits.
