Grammy awards: Michael Jackson's children steal the show
MICHAEL Jackson’s children moved a star-studded audience to tears when they accepted a lifetime achievement Grammy award on behalf of their father.
In their first public appearance since Jackson’s memorial service last July, Prince, 12, and Paris, 11, were remarkably composed as they picked up the prestigious music prize and vowed to carry on their father’s charity work.
Stars including Celine Dion, Usher, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Smokey Robinson performed a special 3D tribute to the King of Pop.
Meanwhile, Beyonce was the biggest winner at the prestigious ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Looking stunning in a variety of costume changes, she picked up six Grammys, setting a new record for the most awards won in a single year by a solo female.
But it was Jackson’s children, wearing black suits with red armbands, who stole the show.
Paris, sporting a military-style jacket just like her father’s, said: “Daddy was going to perform this year. He couldn’t perform last year. Thank you and we love you daddy.”
Prince, speaking with soul legend Lionel Ritchie at his side, said: “We are proud to be here to accept this award on behalf of our father, Michael Jackson.
“Our father was always concerned about the planet and humanity. Through his hard work and dedication he has helped many charities and donated to all of them.
“Through all his songs, his message was simple – love. We will continue to spread his message and help the world. Thank you.”
Beyonce, who began the night with 10 nominations, won Grammys for song of the year and best R&B song, both for Single Ladies. She also won best contemporary R&B album, best R&B female vocal, best traditional R&B performance, and best pop vocal performance.
Country star Taylor Swift won four Grammys, while Jay Z, the Black Eyed Peas and Kings of Leon won three each.
