Gogglebox star Mary Killen says 'Queen is without ego' as royals 'grapple' with duty
GOGGLEBOX star Mary Killen has praised the Queen in light of the "carping about her family" an unearthed interview has detailed.
Gogglebox: Mary Killen emotional over Prince Philip's death
Gogglebox castmate Mary Killen returns to viewers screen's tonight for another instalment of the Channel 4 programme alongside her husband Giles Wood. The author shared her admiration of the Queen while living in a world she branded as "egotistical" and a "me" generation.
Mary commented that the Queen doesn't "crave" social media attention or likes as she performs her royal duties.
The Gogglebox favourite claimed that certain royals do struggle with balancing their personal and public duty.
The Channel 4 star added that we live in a society where people have become "obsessed with themselves".
Speaking in an interview last year, Mary shared her thoughts on the royals in an in-depth chat.

"When there's carping about her family, the Queen never rises to the bait," said Mary.
"She's not swayed by mass opinion, she doesn't crave social media ticks or likes."
The Gogglebox star continued: "We live in an egotistical 'me' age in which people are obsessed with themselves and are entirely self-centred.
"Her Majesty is without ego and all the more admirable for it; service to others is what brings lasting happiness."
"I think that all royals have to grapple with the difficulty of balancing personal principle with public duty," Mary added to The Telegraph.
"Obviously, different generations come to different conclusions about how best to do this."
Mary recently broke down in tears following the news of Prince Philip's death last month.
Speaking to her husband Giles, she remarked: "[The Queen] vowed she would serve her people... all of her life. And that's what she's done."

Mary burst into tears, before adding: "And [Philip] helped her."
Elsewhere, her other half Giles left viewers taken aback on the Channel 4 show after the cast member took a cheeky swipe at his wife.
On last week's show, the married couple sat down to watch the Netflix documentary My Octopus Teacher which featured a man who became unusually close to the eight-limbed jellyfish.
Unfortunately, the octopus sadly died after it had given birth.
During the programme, Giles took a cheeky jibe at Mary's expense which left viewers shocked.
With the octopus slowly dying on screen, Gogglebox's Lee explained: “So you have sex, have baby, and then pop your clogs.
Giles and Mary then appeared on the screen, with the former taking a swipe.
“She’s served her purpose,” Giles remarked, following the film's ending.
Mary commented: “Oh that’s sad though."
“And yet you’re still alive,” Giles quipped.
Gogglebox airs tonight on Channel 4 at 9pm.
