Phillip Schofield issues warning as he admits 'I needed a lot of help' in health admission
PHILLIP SCHOFIELD has urged those suffering with their mental health to speak out as he revealed he had been to some "dark and scary places" with his own health in recent times, during a discussion on This Morning today.
Phillip Schofield admits he was in a ‘dark place’ with mental health
This Morning host Phillip Schofield, 58, told viewers of the ITV show he will be discussing his recent struggles with mental health over the next few weeks as he touched upon the increase in male depression and suicide rates during the coronavirus pandemic today.
Don't rush into judging your life because you never know where it might go quite quickly
Speaking to CALM CEO Simon Gunning about male depression, he urged those suffering to speak out as he reflected on his own struggles.
He said: “Over the next few weeks I will be talking quite a lot about my mental health and where my head has been in recent times.
"It's surprising how you think you've got a grip on everything and suddenly your head takes you to dark and scary places.
"There's no question I needed a lot of help in recent times with people who sit right beside me right now," he added, referring to his co-host and friend Holly Willoughby.

"Steph, my wife at home, my girls, my family and loved ones can be instrumental in helping.”
He added: "I understand and realise that not everyone is as lucky as I am, to have sympathetic ears to listen to, but the first point surely has to be to reach out to the people that know you the best and hopefully you can find a rock that you can tie yourself to.
"I've been to some fairly dark places in my head when those clouds roll in, if you are patient, if you hang on, if you wait, then it is extraordinary how the clouds break up and a little bit of sunshine can come through."
He went on to warn those who may be struggling: "Don't rush into judging your life because you never know where it might go quite quickly."
Phillip touched upon his mental health struggles back in February when he came out as gay.
In an emotional statement on Instagram, he said he had "been coming to terms with the fact that I am gay".
He added: "You never know what's going on in someone's seemingly perfect life, what issues they are struggling with, or the state of their wellbeing - and so you won't know what has been consuming me for the last few years."
The host went on to say his feelings had sparked hard conversations at home with his wife Stephanie Lowe and their daughters Ruby and Molly.

On the same day, he discussed his feelings further with Holly on This Morning.
Phillip praised his family and friends for their support as he revealed he was in no rush to meet anyone new.
He also said he and his wife had never had any secrets in their 27-year marriage.
Last week, reports claimed he had splurged £2 million on a new pad in Chiswick after being spotted by neighbours.
A resident told the Daily Mail online: “There’s quite a few famous people already living around here so Phillip Schofield moving in is not a big deal.
A lot of people have been talking about it, but nobody bothers him.
“He’s a lovely bloke and I’m sure he’ll enjoy living in our community.”
Express.co.uk contacted representatives for Phillip for comment.
The father-of-two previously denied he had moved out of his Oxfordshire family home following speculation back in May.
