Helen Skelton: Countryfile presenter addresses leaving show as she recalls on-set disaster
HELEN SKELTON - a regular presenter on Countryfile - has addressed whether she has thought about leaving the BBC show after reaching her 10-year milestone on the programme last year.
Countryfile: Helen Skelton discusses British harvest heritage
Countryfile presenter Helen Skelton, 36, began presenting segments on the BBC show back in 2008.
While some hosts may consider a change after a decade on a show, the star has revealed she has no plans to leave.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, she said: “God no!
“I love working on Countryfile because you get to go to all different parts of the country, you talk to the most passionate people.
I’ve been a part of it for a decade. It’s a family.
“The nice thing about it is you’re always somewhere different and because it’s seasonal, even if you go back to the same place, the people can be completely different.
“I’ve been a part of it for a decade. It’s a family.”
Helen went on to say she had also become good friends with producers and co-presenters, who have supported her through her two pregnancies.
The presenter shares four-year-old son Ernie and Louis, two, with her husband Richie Myler, who she married in 2013.
During the interview, Helen Skelton reflected on a disastrous moment which occurred on the Countryfile set when she was seven months pregnant.
She explained: “I think the worst thing was when I was about seven months pregnant… I was stuck in a dry suit.
“The more you’re in it the more you panic. I put this dry suit on while helping fish in a canal and I just couldn’t get out of it.”
Thankfully for Helen, her production team were on set to help her out of the suit.
She added: “It took three blokes to help me get out of it!”
Ahead of her stint on Countyfile, Helen was a regular presenter on Blue Peter for five years.
In the early stages of her career, she worked in the newsroom at CFM Radio before moving on to Newsround.
Despite her television success, the blonde beauty previously revealed she had never planned to become a television presenter.
Speaking to the Warrington Guardian, she said: “I never set out to be a telly presenter. I just like talking to people.
"I went to Newsround because I was encouraged to, and the only reason why I ended up on screen was because I covered someone’s maternity leave.
“I’m very naïve and I think that life is too short, you should do stuff that you enjoy, and I’ve been very lucky to chase things in my career that I actually enjoy."
Countryfile continues tonight at 7pm on BBC One.
