Anne Hegerty: 'Makes no sense’ The Chase star turns down show on rival channel
ANNE HEGERTY - who is widely known as The Governess on ITV show The Chase - has revealed she was offered an appearance on a very different show for a rival channel, but turned it down.
I’m A Celeb: Anne admits she WANTED to be voted off
The Chase star Anne Hegerty, 61, responded to a post about the trailer of Channel 4 series Sink or Swim back in August.
Within the show, celebrities, who were mostly unable to swim well, faced challenges to help raise money and awareness for Stand Up To Cancer.
Anne responded to the post, writing: “Wait… the deal is that these are people who don't swim? Why was I offered it? #makesnosense.”
A Twitter user responded to Anne’s tweet assuming she was taking part, as they wrote: “You Will smash it!!! Brave lady!!”(sic)
I would have loved the chance to give it a go. Seriously
But, the quiz master swiftly explained that she had turned the offer down.
She replied: “No, no, I'm not doing it. I was OFFERED it, but it clashed with other dates.”
The Twitter user responded: “I imagine you are glad!! I can swim but the channel... no chance. x.”
Anne then revealed she would’ve loved to have had a chance on the show, despite turning it down.
She replied: “Actually, I would have loved the chance to give it a go. Seriously.”
Anne’s comments received further attention from fans as well as her co-star Mark Labbett, also known as The Beast.
He responded to Anne’s post writing: “Never let the truth get in the way of a good tag line :) #channel4fibbing.”
Anne is no stranger to a challenge show as she took part in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! last year.
During her time on the show, she opened up about her Asperger's syndrome and faced challenges with her fellow camp mates.
The Chase star has previously revealed she wasn’t diagnosed with Aspergers until she was 45 in 2003.
Following her time in camp, runner-up Emily Atack, 29, said Anne Hegerty sends “outrageous” messages in their WhatsApp group.
She told the Sunday Mirror Magazine earlier this year: “I see them all the time. We’re very close still.
“We’ve got a WhatsApp group, it’s popping off right now.
“Anne is the one who sends the most outrageous messages. She’s got a dirty sense of humour, she’s hilarious.”
The ITV series was won by football legend Harry Redknapp.
The Chase airs daily on ITV from 5pm and 7.30pm.
