ANNE HERGERTY, who is widely known as The Governess on ITV show The Chase, has addressed confusion on Twitter about her co-star Paul Sinha leaving the show.
The Chase: Chaser Anne Hegerty calls contestant CUTE
The Chase star Anne Hegerty, 60, responded to a Twitter user who misinterpreted a comment from Paul Sinha, 48, believing he announced his last game was his “final”. Following an episode last week, a Twitter user wrote: “Did Paul just say this was the end of his #TheChase career?” followed by a series of shocked face emojis. Another Twitter revealed he had also got confused with Paul’s comment, replying: “No - he said it was a highlight of his ‘Final chase’ career - as in, final chase part of the show. “I rewound it and put the subtitles on! #thechase.”
This happens to me all the time.
Anne swiftly addressed the confusion and admitted the comment often confused viewers.
In view of her 113,000 followers, she replied: “This happens to me all the time.
“I say something about 'my Final Chase' and Twitter gets hysterical and thinks I'm leaving.
“We have ALWAYS referred to the endgame as the Final Chase.”
Paul didn’t respond to the Twitter confusion, but hit out at being “undermined” for his tweets.
He wrote: “I’m educated, literate, and still 95 per cent of my tweets are undermined by a spelling or grammatical howler.”
One user commented: “This makes me feel better.”
Another added: “Yep autocorrect is your defence.”
Elsewhere on Twitter, Anne was asked who she believes would win a pub quiz out of her and her co-star Mark Labbett, known as The Beast.
The Twitter user wrote: “@anne_hegerty who would win a pub quiz out of you or the beast? My money is on you of course!”
Anne replied: “It would depend on the format and the questions.”
The Twitter user responded: “General knowledge and multiple choice.”
Anne explained: “If there's a time element, Mark is faster than I am. Also depends on the subjects; we have different strengths.”
When quizzed further, Anne admitted she believes Mark could possibly win.
She added: “Wow. Hard to call, but I think he'd edge it because of his speed.”
The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
