Ricky Jay dead: Deadwood actor and magician dies aged 72
RICKY JAY, who is widely known for being a magician and starring in the likes of Deadwood, James Bond and Boogie Nights, has died aged 72.

Ricky Jay’s manager Winston Simone confirmed the news of his death, revealing he had passed away from natural causes. Winston told Variety: “He was one of a kind. We will never see the likes of him again.” Ricky has starred in the likes of The Prestige, The Spanish Prisoner, Mystery Men, Heist, Boogie Nights, House of Games, and Magnolia, and the HBO series Deadwood. He also appeared in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies playing the role of Gupta, a henchman to villain Elliot Carver.
Ricky, real name Richard Jay, was also known for being a magician.
The late actor was first introduced to magic by his grandfather.
He began his career performing in New York, opening for rock bands.
Along with Michael Weber, he created the Deceptive Practices company.
Their company provided solutions to TV shows and movies such as the wheelchair that hid Gary Sinise’s legs in Forrest Gump.
The duo also worked on the likes of Ocean’s Thirteen and The Illusionist.
His business partner Michael took to Twitter to pay a tribute to the star, referring to him as a “remarkable friend”.
He tweeted: “I am sorry to share that my remarkable friend, teacher, collaborator and co-conspirator is gone.”
Stephen Fry also penned a tribute to the star.
He wrote: “Sorry to hear of Ricky Jay's death. He had the chops alright.
“Saw him and his ’52 Assistants’ (in an air conditioned tent to keep his fingertips dry) and was blown away.
“Impossible feats. His book ‘Learned Pigs and Fireproof Women’ a masterpiece.”

American actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus wrote: “Rest In Peace, Ricky Jay. You were an unsurpassed artist and an exceptionally kind soul.
